Thanks for stopping by! I’m Stephanie Fowler, based out of Calgary, Alberta and the girl behind the brush here at DBSL. I am here to showcase my love of architecture and watercolour through urban sketching, playing with perspective, and capturing the magic of street scenes from around the globe.
Design by Streetlight’s inspiration is to capture the beautiful corners of the world through my own creative lens, and to add a bit of whimsy and color to life. My goal is to create lively pieces of art that will call to your dreams of travel, lend a sense of nostalgia for a favourite adventure, and provide you with bright, cheerful artwork that will personalize your space. Celebrate the magic of the world and experience a sense of adventure - all from the comfort of your home.
Why Design by Streetlight? I’ve just always loved them. They’re romantic, magical, and make me dream of life lived in other parts of the world on streets far away from my own. Inspiration hits me in every waking moment, from the strains of a song, to the shadow of leaves on pavement, to the sound of the rain and the cars on the streets. There is magic in dreaming about what life is about. Seeing a new place, or a different side of a familiar spot and wondering about the lives lived inside of it. My art seeks to capture that whimsy, that feeling of imagination and what if - and save it onto paper for others to see and dream about the worlds lived there.
Most of my skill has been learned through hours of experimentation and practice. I embrace the mentality of both 'make messy' and play to really see what the watercolours could do when left to their own devices.
When I’m not painting, I train and teach a Brazilian martial art called capoeira. The remainder of the time, I am either caught up with my husband and our two cats or knee deep in some form of home improvement project or another.
