Tantas cosas cambian cuando tienes hijos. Están los cambios obvios y luego están los cambios inesperados.

Mi esposo estaba en el ejército cuando nos casamos y nos encantó conocer tantos lugares y personas diferentes. Pero con el paso del tiempo, comenzamos a anhelar una forma de vida más simple, más natural y más artesanal. Después de nuestros viajes con los marines, nos hemos establecido en Bailey, CO, en las Montañas Rocosas. Además del tiempo que paso en Emily's Homestead, disfruto de la música, la jardinería, la lectura y el senderismo. Y todas las actividades de mis hijos de secundaria. . . ¿Alguien más en ese loco tren?

Así es como comenzó Emily's Homestead:

Comenzó cuando vi que mi pequeño había heredado el eczema de su mamá. En el pasado, me había untado con los productos farmacéuticos y mi eczema disminuyó por un tiempo, solo para regresar con toda su fuerza más tarde. No me atreví a ponerle las drogas a mi hijo pequeño, especialmente porque nunca parecían ayudar mucho de todos modos.

Así que comencé a buscar una alternativa más saludable. Tenía la intención de encontrar un tratamiento más natural para el eczema con el que tendríamos que vivir, pero luego aprendí sobre el jabón hecho a mano. El jabón hecho a mano no tiene químicos ni detergentes agregados, por lo que no exacerba problemas como el eccema y la psoriasis. ¡Me di cuenta de que podía hacer para nuestra familia un limpiador natural que humectaría su piel y los ayudaría a sentirse mejor!

Lo que comenzó como pequeños pasos tentativos se convirtió en una gran pasión por hacer barras de jabón y champú. Estos productos no eliminan los aceites naturales de la piel, el cuero cabelludo y el cabello. Muchas barras de baño y champús a base de detergente dejan la piel y el cuero cabelludo indefensos, lo que hace que se sobrecargue y produzca aceite para tratar de equilibrarse. Esto lleva a frotar más y comprar más productos para hidratar continuamente la piel y el cabello desnudos. Los jabones y champús hechos a mano llevan su rutina de limpieza de los detergentes fuertes a la bondad de antaño.

Luego, una vez que mi mente creativa se puso en marcha con estos jabones naturales, pasé rápidamente a los bálsamos, los desodorantes probióticos y las velas de cera de coco también.

Al adoptar un estilo de vida más natural y usar productos más naturales en nuestro hogar, hemos podido ayudar a nuestros cuerpos a ayudarse a sí mismos. La mamá en mí ama eso.

So many things change when you have children. There are the obvious changes and then there are the unexpected changes.

My husband was in the military when we first married and we loved getting to experience so many different places and people.  But as time went on, we began to yearn for a simpler, more natural, and more handmade way of life. After our travels with the Marines, we have settled down in Bailey, CO in the Rocky Mountains.  Besides my time spent with Emily's Homestead, I enjoy music, gardening, reading and hiking.  And all of my high school sons' activities . . . anyone else on that crazy train?

Here's how Emily's Homestead began:

It began when I saw that my little guy had inherited his momma's eczema. In the past, I had slathered the pharmaceuticals on myself and my eczema abated for a while, only to come back in full force later. I couldn't bring myself to put the drugs on my small child especially since they never seemed to truly help much anyway.

So I started searching for a healthier alternative. I had intended to find a more natural treatment for the eczema that we would just have to live with but then I learned about handmade soap. Handcrafted soap doesn't have chemicals and detergents added to it so it doesn't exacerbate issues like eczema and psoriasis. I realized that I could make our family a natural cleanser that would moisturize their skin and help them feel better!

What began as tentative baby steps turned into a huge passion for making soap and shampoo bars. These products don't strip the natural oils from your skin, scalp and hair. Many detergent-based bath bars and shampoos leave your skin and scalp defenseless, causing it to go into overdrive producing oil to try to balance itself out. This leads to more scrubbing and buying more products to continually moisturize your stripped-bare skin and hair. Handcrafted soaps and shampoos take your cleansing routine from harsh detergents back to old-fashioned goodness.  

Then, once my creative mind got going on these natural soaps, I quickly branched out to balms, probiotic deodorants and coconut wax candles, as well.

By embracing a more natural lifestyle and using more natural products in our home, we have been able to help our bodies help themselves. The momma in me loves that.
