5 out of 5 starsI love this series of marine crafters! I already have the Industrious Octopus knitting so I changed the design slightly to be crocheting.

About HookLineTinker
Modern embroidery kits for crafty folk.
Greetings from Ketch Harbour, Nova Scotia! I'm Laurie Dolhan, a "thalassophile" (aka ocean lover) making a life by the sea in the beautiful community of Ketch Harbour, Nova Scotia with my husband, Trevor, and our son James.
In 2016, I immersed myself in embroidery, including designing my own patterns. As Hook, Line & Tinker, I design fresh and modern embroidery patterns and kits using my own original illustrations. By using a variety of basic stitches (and easy-to-follow instructions) my designs are simple enough for beginners but dynamic enough for more experienced stitchers.
I love seeing how other people make and display their finished projects. Since launching Hook Line & Tinker in November 2017, my designs have found happy stitchers all around the world. I wish I fit so easily into an envelope!
Like my favourite things, I have been lost, found, and creatively reworked. I live in the beautiful seaside community of Ketch Harbour, Nova Scotia with my husband (Trevor), our son, (James), Charkie the Berndoodle, and a bearded dragon named Draco. We moved to Nova Scotia in 2011 from Whitehorse, Yukon. Ten years before that, I moved from Marlton, New Jersey to Whitehorse to marry my mountain man. Now we're stitching together a happy life by the sea within Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded lands of the Mi'kmaq people.
* Sustainability is very important to me. Everything I make involves careful consideration of its environmental impact. And Hook, Line & Tinker donates 5% of profits to help women and children experiencing homelessness.

Creator, Owner
As part of my journey to date, I have been a Jersey Girl, a Yukon Sourdough, and now I'm what some Nova Scotians refer to as a CFA (come-from-away). Home is Ketch Harbour, Nova Scotia with my husband, son, a bernedoodle and a bearded dragon.

Frequently asked questions
Do you accept returns?
Yes! I accept returns within 30 days of delivery for items other than digital downloads and customized kits. Buyers are responsible for return delivery costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value. Digital downloads are non-refundable.
What happens if my order is not delivered, is delivered damaged, or is returned without delivery?
Sometimes things don't go as planned. I will first make every effort to coordinate delivery with the carrier. Expected shipping times vary by region, but I will issue a full refund for items that are well and truly lost.
Mistakes happen sometimes. If an item is returned because the address was provided was incorrect or is simply not picked up by the receiver, a refund will be issued less the ACTUAL cost of shipping. If the order is returned damaged as well, no refund will be issued.
Are your kits beginner friendly?
I started Hook, Line & Tinker almost exactly 3 years ago. It still amazes me when I see people sharing their final hoop on Instagram with a note that says “my first embroidery project!” Those are the people I design for - first time stitchers. While some patterns are more ambitious than others (level 1 is the easiest, level 3 is the most challenging), it's still just one stitch at a time. You can use simple or more challenging stitches to achieve different but satisfying effects. You are in control of the difficulty.
I'm grateful to play a part in people's first foray into embroidery, and I really want them to enjoy it and be proud of their finished creation.
Are the kits kid-friendly?
I design for adults, but lots of young humans have stitched up my patterns too :) Every human is different, and some kids will take to stitching faster than others. The tricky parts are threading the needle and mastering hand-eye coordination when moving the needle up from behind the fabric. This is a skill that is learned, just like moving a spoon into your mouth. As with any project, be mindful of the appropriateness of working with small, sharp needles and scissors.
How will my order be shipped?
Unless by special arrangement, all order are mailed via Canada Post. All orders are sent with a tracking number.
Will I be charged customs/duty on my order?
I am not a customs expert...but I can speak from experience. Customs fees do not generally apply to orders to the US due to the current trade agreement between Canada and the US. But the UK, Australia, and other countries tend to charge fees. It is usually tax plus a handling charge. Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply.
How long will it take for my order to arrive?
Nova Scotia: 1-3 business days
Canada wide: 2-7 business days
United States: 4-10 business days
International: 6-10 business days
Canada Post is still not guaranteeing delivery times due to covid-19. We are not responsible for delivery delays that are out of our control, but will always do our utmost to resolve challenges.
* Please note that Etsy's delivery times are approximations.
What is your sustainability policy?
We're not perfect, but we're trying very hard to limit our environmental footprint. Our packaging and materials are paper (recycled content when possible) rather than single use plastic. Each kit is currently plastic free! Every effort is made to minimize waste in production and in day-to-day operations.
Do you give back to community?
Poverty alleviation has always been important to me. Hook, Line & Tinker is more than a creative business; it has given me the opportunity to bring craft, and business, and values into one career, and I could not be happier or more grateful. I donate 5% of profits to organizations that support women and children experiencing homelessness and actively volunteer. Our charity of choice is Adsum for Women and Children.
