Frequently asked questions

Where / how can I print digital download files?

You can print the digital files anywhere you choose - at home, at the office, at a professional printer.

For PDFs, I recommend using a general printing resource such as a Staples or Costco. These are relatively inexpensive options, and provide lots of different printing options. Just upload the files and select your print options.

For JPGs, I recommend any local photo lab you trust. Shutterfly and Poster Jack are good online options.

REMEMBER - The final print quality will always depend on the printer and paper. Colours can be rendered darker or lighter between printers and photo labs.

Why are the printed colors for digital downloads different from what I see online?

Every monitor and printer has different colour calibrations. These differences can result in colours appearing differently in print than on your screen.

I only know how it looks on my screen, and how it looks printed via the numerous quality tests I complete. Different variables mean different results.

If printing on regular paper, I recommend using a "matte photo" colour setting. This should make the colours crisper.

If you have concerns, please do contact me and I will assist you as best as I can.

I purchased this digital download item in error; can I get a refund?

I will ONLY consider a refund or exchange IF the purchased file has not been downloaded. Once it is downloaded, it is yours forever.

Printable PDF vs JPEG Files

All my printables are provided as high resolution (300dpi) PDFs, the best file type for paper printing. JPGs are provided for standard NA paper sizes to allow for photo prints.

PDF is the most frequent format requested by printers, because they are best for the export of vector and typographic designs by retaining full colour quality and design quality.

JPEGs can lose quality upon export; this may result in the image printing slightly blurry or pixelated.

I work primarily in Illustrator so PDFs provide the best representation of my work and colour selections for printing across numerous media.

What type of paper should I use?

Paper choice depends on your preferences and the intended use of the print. You can use anything from standard photocopy paper to high-end card stock to photo paper.

Card stock is a good choice and economical; go for coated rather than uncoated. Colour saturation can be an issue for large blocks of colour. The ink may soak too much into the paper leaving dull colours and fuzzy edges.

I test all my prints using a high quality matte photo paper. It provides great colour vibrancy and is thick to the touch. Staples has a great line of in-house photo papers for a reasonable price. You can try satin/luster/pearl paper too.

Any fine art paper (e.g. cotton rag) will work great too, if you are looking to go more high-end.

Do you offer free shipping?

No. Free shipping is never free, especially for small businesses. Many sellers (here and elsewhere) incorporate the cost of shipping into the item cost. So while it appears you are getting free shipping you are likely still paying it as part of the item cost. I prefer buyers to be aware of the actual item cost and actual shipping fee so you can make an informed purchase.
