I have always loved making lovely and useful items with my hands. Now, at this time of life, I am finding the intersection between artisan and artist, between craft and art, between utility and aesthetics. What a delightful exploration it is!
I work in a studio on Denman Island off the west coast of British Columbia, in Canada. My studio is smoke, scent and pet free. The location is far from industry or urban centres so the air is clean and pure. Sounds are of lapping waves, of the calls of seabirds such as gulls and herons, and of sea lions in the spring. Wild roses grow in profusion around my studio and are lovely with blossoms in June and red hips in September.
A seasonal stream widens in front of my studio, then narrows into a gully before it meets the ocean. The water attracts dragonflies which I delight in drawing, painting, embroidering, and beading.
