I started this shop in October of 2012. It was late one night while I was walking with my daughter (she was teething) and I spent the time thinking about what I could name wool if I made up a wool dyeing shop. Then the song lyrics from one of my husbands favourite bands repeated over and over in my head (it was 2am after all and I was exhausted) and my idea of what I wanted to do came to me.
I loved myths when I was a kid. The school librarian actually had a complete series of picture books of the Greek gods. So while other kids were listening to stories about the Hungry Caterpillar, I was hanging out in the back reading about the truly crazy story of Hades and Persephone and the pomegranate seeds. Also, wow was reading material for kids in the 80's highly inappropriate or what? Anyway, I took that love of myths, and my sheer love of wool and tried to meld them together.
I spent the whole 2am walking with the kid time snickering as I thought up more and more weird myth names to give to wool. The one that started it all was and still is my favourite. "Release the Kraken!" I knocked myself out with "Don't taunt the minotaur, I just got him to sleep" (picture a two year old as the minotaur and you can see why I thought that was super funny. Of course I also had about 3 hours of sleep of at that point and may have been punch happy).
So that's how the shop came to be. I love myths. I love yarn. I love them together. I'm trying to branch out a tiny bit from greek myths, but apparently greek is what I know most.
I run this wool business out of my house while looking after my now 4 year old and 6 year old children. I did have wool in a small shop here in Ontario for a while and am open to doing so again. I sell wool to support my own wool habit. I'm sure you know what I mean ;)
