Politico turned Artist/Textile Designer
I have been sketching and designing on post-its, sketchbooks, notepads -- anything I can find with a smidgen of blank space -- for as long as I can remember. The leaves on the hydrangea bush outside, the bold and abstract patterns of the 1960s, the clean lines on a mid-century sofa, the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest; these are just a few of the things that inspire me.
I left a career in politics to pursue my dream of becoming a designer. As I delved into textile design and explored its many facets, I realized it was the perfect conduit for marrying two things: my knack for hand-drawn, hand-painted surface design, and my love for fashion and art.
My experience in block printing came near the end of an intense period of experimentation with many different mediums and techniques. I wanted to try as many things as I could to see how I could produce the best results for my endless print and pattern ideas. After I carved my first block, I knew I was hooked. So much so that I've opened my first Etsy store so that I can now share this excitement with you!
Stay tuned for many other products, including more block-printed tote bags!
