How Do You Price?
You might be asking, Amaki how do you price your art?
There are a couple of factors on how I price my pieces.
1. if it is made to order, I will charge by price per square inch * size
for example, an 8*12 acrylic piece is 48 square in * $1 per square in.
oil is $1.50 per square in
gauche is $0.75
and watercolor is $0.50
2. if it is already premade, I would take the price per square inch * size / 2.
things that are premade might be from school or practice, so i value them slightly less.
Some might be made specifically for the shop.
for example, a set of paintings on 5*7 panels * acrylic paint would had been $70, but since they are premade, they are actually priced at $354
3. Commissions are price per square inch * size *number of hours spent on the piece
My hourly rate for paintings is 20.83/hr up till 15 hours. After 15 hours the hourly rate goes up to 25/hr (aka overtime as I do not take that long to make things. Anything over 15 hours would be considered overly complex.)
for example a 8*12 acrylic piece * 3.56 hrs * $20.83/hr would be a total price of 122.15USD.
a 6in diameter oil painting that took 1.5hrs would cost 73.66USD. (28.27sqin * $1.5/sqin + 1.5hrs * 20.83/hr)
Commissions are paid differently though!
the price of the materials (price per square inch * size) is paid upfront as a refundable down payment
the price for my time is not refundable and is paid at the end of the commission process.
4. all listings on my shop have a 6.5% up scale to compensate for Etsy seller fees (:
Hope this all makes sense (:
