It's not that I don't know what I want to do when I grow up, it's that I want to do so many things. How many things exactly? Right now I have 3 jobs, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm Sarah Mandell, the brains and busy hands behind Once Again Sam, an indie craft business based in Greenville, SC. I design and make affordable modern jewelry using re-purposed materials such as leather and wood. I'm also a fiber artist and I work with wool fiber to create needle felted sculptures that range from realistic-looking plants, to quirky sea creatures, and even anatomical hearts.
I graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Environmental Design (2005), and have been working as an interior designer in the field of commercial architecture ever since. Even though my primary time commitment and source of income is my handmade business, I simply couldn't leave my "day job" as an interior designer behind - I love it too much!
When I'm not designing spaces, or making things with my hands, I'm still creating, but with words writing fiction. I've had two novels published so far, Celia on the Run (2011), and Two Brothers, One Redhead, and a Stolen Giraffe (2016), plus countless other's in the works.
It's fair to say I live to create!
