Pyrography Art
Nel 2014 a mio marito, Todd, è stato chiesto di realizzare diversi tamburi in legno in stile azteco. Todd voleva decorare i lati dei tamburi con la pirografia, ma aveva problemi a "disegnare" con la stufa a legna. Mi ha chiesto aiuto da quando sono un artista da quando avevo 10 anni. Ho finito per bruciare i disegni sui tamburi per lui e questo ha iniziato il mio viaggio pirografico.
Con il mio background nel disegno ho preso la pirografia come un'anatra all'acqua. Ho passato mesi a creare un progetto dopo l'altro imparando le impostazioni di calore che funzionavano meglio per me. Ho anche dovuto imparare come le diverse punte della penna per pirografia possono essere utilizzate per replicare ciò che potevo fare con una matita su carta. Questo è qualcosa che sto ancora perfezionando.
Todd fa la maggior parte delle tavole su cui brucio. Le tavole sono solitamente fatte di basswood, ma userà anche acero o pioppo. Abbiamo anche scoperto che ci sono alcuni legni su cui non brucerò come Oak & Hickory poiché la grana pesante interferisce con l'arte. Dopo che ho finito di bruciare la tavola, torna a Todd e lui la sigilla con 5-7 mani di lacca.

Back in 2014 my husband, Todd, was asked to make several wooden Aztec styled drums. Todd wanted to decorate the sides of the drums with pyrography, but was having problems 'drawing' with the wood burner. He asked me for help since I've been an artist since I was 10 years old. I ended up burning the designs onto the drums for him and that started my pyrography journey.
With my background in drawing I took to pyrography like a duck to water. I spent months creating project after project learning the heat settings that worked best for me. I also had to learn how the different pyrography pen tips can be used to replicate what I could do with a pencil on paper. This is something I'm still perfecting.
Todd makes most of the boards that I burn on. The boards are usually made out of basswood, but he will also use maple or poplar. We've also discovered that there are some woods I won't burn on like Oak & Hickory as the heavy graining interferes with the art. After I'm done burning the board, it goes back to Todd and he seals it with 5-7 coats of lacquer.
