We still run the properties.
We weren't full-time investors. Moya, a former teacher, worked full time as a nanny. While Ken owned and ran a live music venue in Portland, Maine, full time, we were also running several short- and long-term rentals. At peak that was fifteen rentals, seven of them short-term, across two countries and three very different markets. Today we're Airbnb Superhosts with 586+ Airbnb guest reviews, a 4.9 rating and 25+ years in hospitality.
We ran all of it together. We both underwrote the deals, both cleaned the units, both answered the midnight messages, both took the call when something broke. Ken came up through hospitality: host, server, bartender, restaurant floors. Moya taught before she spent years as a full-time nanny. Two jobs that are really the same job: noticing what someone needs before they ask for it.
We're operators, not a management company, and we still run our properties. Every template in this shop is one we use: the checklist our cleaners carry, the house rules guests actually read, the welcome book guests mention in reviews, the messages we send every guest, the signs, and the spreadsheets we run the business on. Our Mexico rentals run with a local Spanish-speaking team, and the bilingual templates are the ones we work from with them. Nothing a guest sees carries our name. No filler: if a page doesn't earn its place, it isn't in the file.
