🌈 A Life Shaped by Wood and Neurodiversity ♾️
Spectrum Woodwright is my attempt to build a life that works with, not against, how my mind is wired. I’m autistic and ADHD, and after years of trying to fit into roles that dulled my focus or drained my energy, I decided to carve my own path — literally.
My brand, Spectrum Woodwright, carries a double meaning for me: it celebrates the incredible natural range of colour and character found in hardwoods, and it also reflects my place on the neurodivergent spectrum. Working with wood allows me to find my peace and presence of mind — and I hope it can extend into your home too.
🔨 My Making Philosophy 🔨
Honesty: 100% hardwood. 0% dyes or stains. Each piece is made from solid timber, letting the natural grain take centre stage. All deliveries are fully tracked from my bench to your door.
Authenticity: I celebrate each timber’s character and offer free personalised engraving on many products, adding individuality without covering the wood’s beauty.
Longevity: I build with the hope my work will be used, loved, repaired, and passed down as heirloom gifts, not replaced or forgotten after a few years.
Responsibility: I use responsibly sourced timber and minimise waste. That same care extends to my customers through clear communication, reliable dispatch, and careful packaging.
Inclusivity: I aim to keep my work accessible through fair pricing, thoughtful design, and a growing range that invites more people to enjoy handcrafted wood.
Each piece I make reflects these principles. Craft should be honest, personal, and made with care from start to finish.
🧭 My Journey •*⁀➷
My relationship with making started young. I’ve always been drawn to detail — to how things fit together, how materials feel, and how a simple idea becomes something you can hold. That curiosity followed me through school into design and technology, and eventually into running my first small business as a teenager. Even then, I found comfort in the rhythm of hands-on work and the satisfaction of creating something tangible.
Before I understood that I was autistic and ADHD, I spent years trying to fit into work that drained me — creative on paper but never quite the right environment for how I think and focus. It took burning out, starting again, and finding woodworking properly for me to realise that this wasn’t just a craft, it was a kind of therapy. The repetition, the sensory calm, and the control over form and finish helped me rebuild my confidence and find peace of mind.
Joining a shared workshop gave me not just the tools, but the community I needed to grow again. Surrounded by people who shared knowledge freely and respected neurodiversity, I found a space where I could be both methodical and imaginative. That’s where Spectrum Woodwright truly began — from gratitude, curiosity, and the simple joy of turning raw timber into something lasting.
🌱 Looking to the future 🤞
My hope is to one day expand into a small studio that provides opportunities for other neurodivergent makers. Every order and new product range/drop brings that goal a little closer thank you for being part of it.
