J’ai commencé à restaurer et à vendre des copies de motifs vintage en ligne il y a plus de 15 ans. Voici pourquoi :
Quand je veux travailler sur un projet, je veux y aller droit. Faire des achats sur Internet était pratique, mais vous deviez ensuite attendre et attendre que le courrier postal apporte vos fournitures avant de pouvoir commencer. J’aurais aimé que quelqu’un scanne les motifs vintage et les propose sous forme de fichiers PDF. Les seuls motifs PDF à cette époque n’étaient que du tricot et du crochet. Alors, j’ai pensé: « Hé, si je l’achetais, je suis sûr qu’il y a beaucoup d’autres personnes qui l’aimeraient aussi! » Je suis donc devenue la PREMIÈRE à vendre des PDF de patrons de couture!
J’ai commencé à numériser certains de mes nombreux motifs et à les retravailler pour qu’ils tiennent sur du papier ordinaire de format informatique. Au début, j’ai vendu sur Ebay. Mon idée de modèle électronique a été si bien accueillie que j’ai rapidement obtenu le statut de Power Seller. Ensuite, Ebay a interdit la vente de tout ce qui était numérique sur son site en 2008.
Je suis allé trouver un autre site pour vendre mes e-patterns. Entrez dans ETSY! Quelle joie de travailler avec les gens ici à Etsy! C’est tellement convivial pour les vendeurs (aussi pour les acheteurs!) J’ai rencontré tellement de gens merveilleux de partout dans le monde!
Au début, j’ai vendu restauré: Poupée; Vêtements de poupée; & Toy Sewing e-Patterns. Ensuite, j’ai bifurqué vers Fashion Booklets & Patterns des années 1920, avec des livres de cuisine et des livres de vacances venant juste après. Puis vinrent les patrons de vêtements vintage de Kid! Bientôt, j’ai combiné les publications vintage avec mon premier amour (Dolls) et voilà, sont sortis les livrets électroniques Funstuff de taille doll (disponibles en tailles AG 18 », 10-12 » et 5-7 »)
J’ai été approchée par Andover Fabrics pour collaborer sur un livret de mode féminine des années 1920 afin de l’aider à vendre leur ligne de tissus sous licence officielle « Downton Abbey ». Nous avons fabriqué les livrets de motifs « 1 Hour Dress » et « 1920's Hats » disponibles en PRINT pour les magasins Quilt partout aux États-Unis. L’année suivante, nous avons ajouté Aprons & Caps, Flapper Fashions et Egyptomania Booklets. Ceux-ci sont tous disponibles au format PDF dans ma boutique Etsy, ainsi que des versions imprimées sur Hawthorne Threads en ligne.
Qui sait ce qui va suivre!?!?! Ce fut un voyage amusant et je suis prêt à voir quelles idées nouvelles et excitantes sont au prochain coin de rue !!
I started restoring and selling vintage pattern copies online over 15 years ago. Here's why:
When I want to work on a project, I want to get right at it. Shopping on the internet was convenient, but then you had to wait and wait for snail-mail to bring your supplies before you could start. I wished someone would scan the vintage patterns and offer them as PDF files. The only PDF patterns at that time were just Knit and Crochet. So, I thought, "Hey, if I would buy it, I am sure there are lots of other folks out there who would love it too!" So, I became the FIRST to sell Sewing Pattern PDFs!
I started scanning some of my many patterns and reworked them so that they fit on regular computer sized paper. At first I sold on Ebay. My e-pattern idea was so well received I achieved Power Seller status quickly. Then, Ebay banned selling anything digital on their site in 2008.
Off I went to find another site to sell my e-patterns. Enter ETSY! What a joy it has been to work with the people here at Etsy! It is so seller-friendly (buyer-friendly too!) I've met so many wonderful people from all over the world!
At first, I sold restored: Doll; Doll Clothing; & Toy Sewing e-Patterns. Then I branched out to Fashion Booklets & Patterns from the 1920s, with Cookbooks and Holiday Books coming right after that. Then came Kid's vintage clothing patterns! Soon, I was combining the vintage publications with my first love (Dolls) and voilà, out came the Doll-sized Funstuff e-booklets (available in AG sized 18", 10-12" and 5-7" sizes)
I was approached by Andover Fabrics to collaborate on a 1920's Women Fashions Booklet to help sell their officially licensed "Downton Abbey" fabric line. We made the "1 Hour Dress" and "1920's Hats" Pattern booklets available in PRINT for Quilt shops all over the US. The following year we added Aprons & Caps, Flapper Fashions and Egyptomania Booklets. These are all available as PDFs in my my Etsy shop, as well as printed versions at Hawthorne Threads online.
Who knows what will be next!?!?! It has been a fun journey and I am ready to see what new & exciting ideas are around the next corner!!
