Leaf celery (Apium graveolens var. secalinum Alef.) also called Chinese celery or Nan Ling celery, is a variety of celery cultivated in East Asian countries for its edible, flavorful stalks and leaves.
The stems are thinner than those of Western celery, and curved into round, hollow stalks. Also, unlike with Western celery, the leaves are used as well as the stalks.
How to germinate
Soak seed overnight before sowing in spring and autumn.
Sow seed depth 3mm
Seed will germinate in 8-10 days at 68-77 F
Watering twice a day , transplant seedling when 3-6” tall
Spacing 6 to 8 inches (15-20 cm) apart in all directions.
Add organic compost to planting beds in advance of sowing; organic compost will feed the soil and aide moisture retention.
Celery grows best when daytime temperatures are in the 68-77 F
Celery prefer soil pH 5.8 to 6.8.
Grow celery in full sun , celery tolerates partial shade.
Fertilize : work organic compost into the soil prior to planting
Water thoroughly , Chinese celery required a lots of water, make sure the soil is damp
Common pests include aphids, cabbage loopers, celery worms, slugs, weevils, spider mites and whiteflies.
Common diseases include blight, damping off, leaf spot, and celery mosaic.
