LED lights are a versitile and energy-efficient way to illuminate any space. In living room decor, consider using LED strip lights to create a cozy atmosphere. LED recessed lighting provides subdued light, while LED ceiling lights can be as bright or dim as you like.

It’s easy to use lights for the bedroom to create a soothing environment for sleeping or relaxing in your personal sanctuary. Consider an LED lamp on the nightstand for reading lighting. Or create a starry ceiling with LED string lights.

In the kitchen, LED under cabinet lighting provides task lighting for food prep. Installing LED light bars above the cabinets creates a well-lit space that can make a kitchen feel more spacious.

Outdoor areas and the garage can also benefit from super bright LEDs. LED garage lights give you ample lighting for a functional workspace. LED outdoor lighting illuminates your backyard or porch at night and adds curb appeal.

Whether you want to light a large room or a small space, here are a few tips to keep in mind when shopping for LED lights for a room.

  • Lumens, not watts: Traditional light bulbs are based on watts, but LED light bulbs are measured by lumens. For example, 750 lumens is about the same brightness as a 60-watt incandescent bulb.
  • Shape and sizes: LED lighting and light bulbs come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and styles. Be sure the bulbs you buy can fit in your existing lamps or fixtures.
  • Smart features: For controlling your bulbs through an app or smart home device, consider smart LED bulbs. These bulbs work well for outdoor lighting or indoor lighting control.
  • Color temperature: LED lighting makers often use the Kelvin temperature scale to demonstrate a white light bulb’s general shade. A low Kelvin score means that the bulbs are more yellow, as with natural lighting. A higher Kelvin score indicates that light is bluer. Choose the color temperature that fits your needs. Warm light tends to be homier, and warm lighting looks similar to the traditional light from incandescent bulbs.
  • Dimmability: Many LED bulbs don’t work with older fluorescent dimming switches, so you may have to switch out your old switches or shop carefully for bulbs that will work with what you have.
