From Japan to Europe: Sharing the Joy of Origami
El origami siempre ha estado presente de forma discreta en mi vida. Al crecer en Japón, era algo tan familiar que rara vez me detenía a apreciar su verdadera belleza.
Todo cambió cuando me mudé a Londres. Allí empecé a trabajar como diseñadora gráfica en una tienda de origami. Estar rodeada de papeles, patrones y diseños a diario me ayudó a ver el origami con otros ojos. En particular, descubrí la extraordinaria belleza del Yuzen Washi, un papel tradicional japonés inspirado en los elegantes diseños de los tejidos de los kimonos. Los colores, los detalles y la artesanía me parecieron aún más especiales vistos desde fuera de Japón, donde el origami a menudo se da por sentado.
Tras el Brexit, mi viaje me llevó a un pequeño pueblo de la región de Las Marcas, en Italia, donde reside la familia de mi marido. Allí me di cuenta de que muchas personas aficionadas a las manualidades y al arte con papel todavía tienen un acceso muy limitado al papel de origami Yuzen Washi de alta calidad.
Por eso fundé Fuchan Studio y esta tienda.
Mi misión es compartir la belleza de la cultura del origami y facilitar el acceso al auténtico papel de origami Yuzen Washi en toda Italia y la Unión Europea. Al vivir lejos de Japón, también espero transmitir esta tradición a mis hijos y a otras personas que no tengan fácil acceso a la cultura del origami. A través de estos papeles, espero inspirar la creatividad, brindar alegría al arte de crear y contribuir a mantener vivo el origami.
Origami has always been quietly present in my life. Growing up in Japan, it was something so familiar that I rarely stopped to appreciate how beautiful it truly was.
Everything changed when I moved to London. There, I began working as a graphic designer for an origami shop. Being surrounded by papers, patterns, and designs every day helped me see origami with fresh eyes. In particular, I discovered the extraordinary beauty of Yuzen Washi—traditional Japanese paper inspired by the elegant patterns of kimono textiles. The colors, details, and craftsmanship felt even more special when viewed from outside Japan, where origami is often taken for granted.
After Brexit, my journey brought me to a small town in the Marche region of Italy, where my husband’s family is based. Here I realized that many people who love crafts and paper art still have very limited access to high-quality Yuzen Washi origami paper.
That is why I started Fuchan Studio and this shop.
My mission is to share the beauty of origami culture and make authentic Yuzen Washi origami paper easier to access across Italy and the European Union. Living far from Japan, I also hope to pass this tradition on to my children and others who may not have easy access to origami culture. Through these papers, I hope to inspire creativity, bring joy to crafting, and help keep the art of origami alive.
