My creative outlet
I learned to sew as a small child. My and my sister's baby sitter loved to make her own clothes and she helped us make doll clothes and pajama pants to entertain us while my mom was at work. Very quickly after that I started making up my own patterns and designs because I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for anywhere else.
Fast forward to college, I chose to pursue an engineering degree and later a PhD in materials science and engineering. While I love that profession and I love my job, it doesn't provide much of a creative outlet. Since the best engineers are creative, I returned to my sewing roots to provide some exercise to my creative muscles through quilting.
Quilting is the process of stitching the different layers of a quilt together (backing, batting, and the colorful front). It functions to holds the layers together and gives the items their three-dimensional texture. While I love all part of the process, the quilting process is my favorite because it provides so much freedom to play. For me, the process is like doodling on fabric and it's both challenging and rewarding. The quilting I incorporate into every piece I make is designed to enhance the underlying design and provide even more uniqueness and beauty. GuiltyQuiltyStudio arose out of that love. It's a way for me to be creative and also bring a little bit of my unique aesthetic and beauty to the world.
