4 out of 5 starsOverall this is pretty nice, it’s well printed, looks nice, but it doesn’t work well without a LOT of manual intervention with rougher spun yarns—it took twice as long as a manual winder, I had to re-wind a few of the balls because they turned out pretty sloppy. I also have to act as a manual tensioner between my swift and the winder, so it’s actually more hands on than my manual winder. It works better with smoother yarn. It would have been nice to get some kind of diagram or instruction sheet - I was able to figure it out with the video and knowing how this should work, but it’s not very beginner friendly — the video is too quick to really catch every step and isn’t meant to be instructional. I’m going to try this with some finer yarns to see if that’s the sweet spot, otherwise I may gift it to a friend.

Different yarn textures can require some adjustment to speed and tension, and your experience with rougher spun yarns is very helpful for improving the product. I also completely agree about the instructions — I’m working on a clearer step-by-step guide/video to make setup and use much easier. 5 out of 5 starsI reached out to the seller first to get help with colors. They went above and beyond helping me and were very fast replying. It did take me a few times to get a good understanding of how the winder works, I attribute that to only having used a manual winder prior to. Personally, I probably wouldn’t use it for anything over a 3 yarn weight. So far I’ve used it for a handful of Cascade Woolpaka hanks and it has worked quite well. While the package did ship timely it was stuck in customs for almost 1.5 weeks coming into the US. This is not to discourage a customer, rather to inform of delays should you have a timeframe to have the item by. It shipped on July 16th and didn’t arrive until the August 3rd, 10 of those days it was at customs.

5 out of 5 starsGreat little electric ball winder, especially for the price. A couple of FYIs: The plug it comes with is European style, so those in the UK or US will need an adapter (I had one on hand so it wasn't an issue). It doesn't come with directions, which would have been nice, but assembly was easy enough to figure out watching the video on the Etsy listing, and use is straightforward if you know how a ball winder is supposed to work. Also, I needed to keep an eye on the tensioning system and make sure I was adding an additional point of tension ahead of the yarn guide to ensure that the yarn didn't tangle up in the spiral part. Part of that was my lazy Kate not being tensioned itself, though. But it would be nice to be able to adjust the tension in the guide. All in all, took a bit of experimenting to dial it in, but now works great!
