A Little Bit about this Bat
Once upon a time there was a girl who loved dark and beautiful things. She taught herself to knit (left-handed) and began to make fun, spooky creations. People began requesting her creations, so the BitBat shop was born.
Hand pressed pins, magnets, keychains joined the shop along with sheer, flower decor. Sewn bows, fascinators, and other edgy hair clips followed suit. Over time and with a lot of hard work and mentorship, a jewelry line unfolded. Pieces started with simplistic design work and eventually evolved to intricate wirework with gemstones, silver, and bones. Prints of original artwork were added. BitBat is renowned mostly for the knit work which began with cute gothic baby booties, plushies, and scarves and has progressed to lacework, gloves, shawls, purses, tatting, crochet and more.
BitBat premiered vending in person in Oakland at an underground music festival, and has since vended countless gothic, deathrock, and punk shows, dance nights, oddity expos, cons, and Halloween themed craft fairs. BitBat is all about DIY style and killer artistry, which is why it’s no surprise to find the shop vending live music shows including Iggy, Devo, The Damned, The Chameleons, Clan of Xymox, Skeletal Family, The Spiritual Bat, ExVoto, Theatre of Hate, The Buzzcocks, Ausgang, Monica Richards, and much more.
Prior to the pandemic, you could find BitBat every month at Dark Market. Dark Market was a curio of dark artists in the Bay Area. This market was located on the upstairs floor of Death Guild Saturday’s at the Uptown. Death Guild known as the oldest, continually operating goth/industrial nights in the United States. Dark Market is on hiatus due to COVID 19, but there are hopes it shall return.
