THIS LISTING IS FOR AN ADULT-SIZED KNITTED NAPPY SOAKER COVER. FOR CUSTOM BABY/TODDLER-SIZED NAPPY COVERS, PLEASE SEE THIS LISTING: https://www.etsy.com/wombleknits/listing/579407144/
Have a custom wool diaper cover knitted for you to your actual measurements and with colours and embellishments of your choosing.
These nappy soakers are knitted in the round with no seams, with ribbing at waist and leg holes to ensure a good fit. Also with a waist tie for slimmer waists, to help hold them up.
Natural wool is breathable, so keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. As a waterproof layer, it allows moisture to evaporate through the wool and, even better, wool reacts naturally with urine to help neutralise any odours!
Please note that wool is not a solid barrier to moisture like normal waterproof pants. It relies on evaporation of moisture through the wool layer, so it is important to a) provide plenty of absorbent padding where you get wettest and b) avoid too much pressure from any clothing worn outside the nappy cover, e.g. tight crotch trousers.
The wool soaker will work as a cover over both fitted cloth nappies and folded terry squares (held in place with a nappy nippa or safety pin).
A note on pricing: it may seem like I'm asking an awful lot of money for these nappy covers, but please take into account that for this price I'm offering a fully customised service encompassing around 22 hours of knitting plus up to 5 hours of liaison regarding colour and pattern and updates, finding/ordering appropriate yarn, lanolising etc.
I do have one ready knitted standard size soaker available here: https://www.etsy.com/wombleknits/listing/1501118455
If you would like to knit your own wool soaker, my Any Size Wool Soaker pattern is now available, including the same standard adult size as detailed here, plus the facility to generate a pattern customised to your own measurements: https://www.etsy.com/wombleknits/listing/1507174638
-HOW TO ORDER-
FIRST CHOOSE YOUR PRICING OPTIONS:
1. FINISH:
The basic soaker comes in one colour or stripes. However, for an extra fee, I can add a picture, initial or name on your soaker - please include details in the personalisation box.
Lanolising is a process which helps to make the wool waterproof. My baby nappy soakers come ready lanolised (waterproofed), but as some adults may wish to wear them for aesthetic rather than practical reasons, you can save £10 by choosing to receive your soaker unlanolised. You will also get it faster as you won't have to wait several days for the wool to dry out completely before being posted to you.
The options are:
a) Plain unlanolised
b) Plain lanolised (ready to use)
c) Embroidered unlanolised
d) Embroidered lanolised (ready to use)
2. STYLE:
Up to April 2023 all WombleKnits soakers have been knit in standard worsted weight wool
which works great and gives a relatively slim fit, but takes a long time to knit. I have now developed the pattern to use chunky or bulky weight wool to offer a slightly cheaper alternative (as there are fewer stitches to knit), but offset by being slightly more bulky to wear.
The options are:
a) New thicker wool
b) Standard worsted wool
IN THE "CUSTOMISE YOUR ITEM" BOX
1. SIZE:
Please measure over a normal nappy to ensure a good fit (see picture 2).
Waist – measure around where you would like the waistband to sit (above the nappy)
Hips – measure around the widest part over the nappy
Rise – measure from top of nappy at the front, between legs and back up to top of nappy at the back
Thigh – measure around top of leg (below the nappy)
For ease, I offer a standard size nappy cover which should fit quite a wide range of shapes and sizes:
STANDARD ADULT SIZE
Waist – 76-127cm / 30-50" (or smaller with drawstring)
Hip – 96-147cm / 38-58"
Rise – 76-112cm / 30-44"
Leg cuff – 47-91cm / 18.5-36"
If you fall within this range the standard size should fit you, as the knitted soaker is stretchy enough to accommodate quite a wide range. However, if you require a different size (or any one measurement bigger or smaller than standard), please enter your measurements in the personalisation box and I will amend my pattern to fit your requirements.
Please note that if you require a soaker much larger than the standard size I may need to charge you an additional fee as there is a *lot* of knitting required in items of this size and a few extra inches can take several hours to knit! Similarly, if your measurements are much smaller than standard, I may be able to give you a small refund.
2. DESIGN:
Please tell me what colour(s) you would like. I have a variety of wools available at any one time so may be able to provide what you need from my stock - see the penultimate picture for the yarns I have most of in stock, and note I always have smaller amounts of other colours which could be used for contrasting stripes/waistband and cuffs/embroidery. Please be aware that if I need to order in yarn this may increase my delivery time by up to a week.
Suggested designs include:
a) all one colour (e.g. yellow soaker)
b) one main colour (or self-striping yarn) with contrasting waistband, drawstring and cuffs (e.g. purple/sunset soaker or black/cream soaker)
c) horizontal stripes (e.g. lilac striped soaker)
d) rainbow soaker (red waistband and cuffs with wide stripes of the other 6 rainbow colours)
See the last two pictures for examples of embroidered writing or pictures and other suggested designs drawn from my baby nappy soakers. (You can also check out my baby soakers for ideas here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/wombleknits?section_id=23296651)
Please note that when agreeing colours with you, the apparent colour of the yarns may vary according to monitor differences.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS: wool is naturally antibacterial and self-cleaning, so this soaker does not need to be washed after every use. Just hang out to air between uses and only wash if it becomes soiled or starts to smell. When you do wash it, use a gentle wool wash to avoid shrinkage. It only needs to be re-lanolised when it starts to lose its effectiveness. (A guide to lanolising will be included with your soaker.)
PROCESSING TIME:
I will do my utmost to ship within 4 weeks of receiving your payment. This timescale is to allow for delays, e.g. having to wait for yarn delivery or life events getting in the way, as well as time for the soaker to dry after lanolising, but I would normally aim to finish within around 2-3 weeks.
Please note that 4 weeks is the processing time only, and does not include shipping time.
SHIPPING: Default shipping is with the following services:
UK - Royal Mail tracked special delivery, guaranteed by 1pm next day
Europe - Royal Mail international tracked & signed, aim to deliver within 3-7 working days
Rest of world - Royal Mail international tracked, aim to deliver within 5-7 working days
However, if shipping overseas from the UK, parcels can become held up by customs for up to another 5 weeks.
If you require the item delivered more quickly, contact me for a quote for a shipping upgrade by another courier.
All packaging is reused/recycled to keep costs down and avoid waste, and any tape used is biodegradable.
Please note: photo props not included.
