I'm Jelaine and welcome to October Me. I've always had a passion and a knack for all types of crafts. But as an IT professional by trade, expressing myself creatively was usually limited to organizing colored wires in interesting patterns. Joke. Honestly, it was limiting as a creative outlet.
Right now my Etsy shop is dedicated to all things fabric. What started out as hobby, making bags for myself, has turned into small business venture. Actually, it still is a bit of a hobby but demand grew for some of my designs and the business kind of started itself.
Like most ventures such as mine, my products grew by word-of-mouth from friends and family. When I first started I focused on all kinds of bags: like totes, wine bags, handbags and clutch purses.
After my son was born, my interests turned more toward, naturally, baby products. Everything from blankets and towels, to bibs and facecloths. Much of what you'll find in my shop right now.
There is really no method to the madness when I decide what medium to work in. I just kind of follow my gut. Or, unless a special request sparks a new idea.
The object of all of this to expand into all phases of fashion, accessories and home decor and become a media mogul like Martha Stewart. That would be nice but until then it's blankets and washcloths for now.
Honestly, venturing in to some of that would be interesting, only on a slightly smaller scale. If I have any business model it would be that I just try design things that I might buy for myself and hope others like them as well. I would like to put together a body of work that can kind of all work together. Things you can mix and match one piece to the other. Something that you might find in any retail store. Only handmade.
