Hi, my name is Alex, the calligrapher and designer behind “By Hand Calligraphy Shop”, currently based in Czech Republic.
I have always loved letters, crafts, working with my hands and creating compositions with writing, but the impulse that led me to start with calligraphy was when, years ago, I found all kinds of typesetting gadgets, such as lead type, inks, nibs, and sets of outlining tools that had belonged to my grandfather.
I started practicing and researching and soon realized that I was passionate about handwriting and its history, so I began to study and read all the calligraphy books I could buy, and then I started attending classes with some of the best calligraphers in Spain.
After that, I have continued working, learning and developing my activity as a professional calligrapher. For me, the work of a calligrapher is that of an eternal apprentice, since every day when I start writing, I learn something new that I didn't know the day before.
Currently, in addition to working on my personal calligraphy projects and artwork, I create completely personalized, handmade projects using artisanal tools, paper and ink.

Siempre me gustaron las letras, la artesanía, trabajar con las manos y crear composiciones con la escritura, pero el impulso que me llevó a comenzar con la caligrafía fue cuando, años atrás, encontré todo tipo de artilugios de composición tipográfica, como tipos de plomo, tintas, plumillas, juegos de herramientas para delinear que habían pertenecido a mi abuelo.
Comencé a practicar e investigar y pronto supe que la escritura a mano y su historia me apasionaban, por lo que me puse a estudiar y a leer todos los libros de caligrafía que pude comprar, y después, empecé a asistir a clases con alguno de los mejores calígrafos en España.
Tras ello he continuado trabajando, aprendiendo y desarrollando mi actividad como calígrafo profesional. Para mí, el trabajo del calígrafo es el del eterno aprendiz, ya que cada día cuando me pongo a escribir, aprendo algo nuevo que el día anterior desconocía.
En la actualidad, además de trabajar en mis obras y proyectos de caligrafía personales, elaboro proyectos totalmente personalizados hechos a mano, usando herramientas, papel y tinta artesanales.
