A gift for my wife
The idea for this shop started when my wife and I found my childhood Game Boy Color and started playing it again. I bought her favorite game from her childhood, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, and we had a ton of fun playing it together. Not only that, but I realized she was really, really good at it! Sadly, we couldn't find her childhood lime green Game Boy Color, and her parents revealed that they likely got rid of it long ago. After this, I set out to find her another one as a surprise gift but realized that some random used one would never be as good as her original. I decided that, if I was going to get her one, it had to be better.
She mentioned that she had one of the original Nyko worm lights so she could play at night (which as a kid would have been amazing). After looking at the "new" worm lights, it was clear that they were low quality and wouldn't be an improvement over the Nyko. After doing some research, I came across the possibility of upgrading the screen to be backlit. There were so many different screens available! I had to find one that was both high quality and provided a better experience.
Once I settled on the screen, the rest of the parts fell into place, and I built her a pink and white backlit Game Boy Color. She loves it! It is so much better than the original, but it still completely captures the fun and nostalgia of our childhood. We decided that we wanted to revive more Game Boy's for friends and for others, but with even better upgrades and improvements. We want everyone to be able to experience the best handheld retro gaming the 90's had to offer!
Now our kids request to play our Game Boys, and not surprisingly, they always want to play "the good one" :)
