Just beachy!
My love of the beach began with childhood trips to seaside resorts in England. Despite the inevitable necessity for a windbreak (and sometimes even an umbrella), the hypnotic sound of the waves, the feeling of sunshine on salty skin and the endless possibility of discovering hidden sandy treasures had me hooked. As life took me further afield, I was lucky enough to experience the same coastal magic in, amongst other places, Abu Dhabi, Malaysia, Virginia, California, Singapore and New Zealand. Whilst each location was undeniably unique, a visit to the beach invoked the same tranquil feelings of peace and calm, regardless of continent or coastline. Fast forward to 2014 when, as a family, we made the decision to settle in Virginia Beach - a place which has always held a special place in our hearts.
They say if you are lucky enough to live by the beach, then you are lucky enough. Whether it is by luck or design, I now find myself within a short distance of the Chesapeake Bay and the Virginia Beach coastline. For me, a walk on the beach can provide solace, inspiration, rejuvenation and a time for self-reflection. What's more, that sandy shoreline is an ever-changing source of wonderful treasures in the form of driftwood and other sea-washed items swept up by the tide. I LOVE driftwood! The mystery of where it originated; those wonderful sun-bleached shades of gray; the twisted forms that never fail to inspire; and, perhaps most of all, the opportunity to bring the outside, inside, with handcrafted creations that can transform this reclaimed wood into beautiful, organic decor items.
Little Beach Tree was inspired by my love of driftwood and a desire to bring coastal treasures into the home as unique decor items. Many of the pieces I produce are truly one-of-a-kind, as each piece of driftwood is different. However, I have also expanded my inventory, producing handcrafted pillow covers, fabric coasters, wooden hanging hearts, wall signs and little wooden houses, all with a coastal vibe. I am always happy to consider any individual requests and would welcome the opportunity to produce a customized product that is designed specifically for you.
