Sophie's Soaps at Mini-Hooves Farm
My passion for making soap started when I took a one-on-one "Cold process Goat Milk Soap" class. I loved it! I was initially intimidated by the prospect of using lye (Sodium Hydroxide). But, after about 6 months I overcame that fear and started making my first, solo, cold process goat milk soap. I read articles, blogs, watched videos, took more marketing classes, and as the first few years past, I started doing farmers' markets and craft fairs. Then I launched my own website. My website was active for approximately 2 years, and I think I did about $200 in sales... UGG! I finally took a class on how to set up Etsy listings and opened my Etsy shop. It's still a work in progress, but Etsy has given me far more sales in the year that I have really focused on it, than my website did in the 2+ years that it was active.
Now I offer all natural soaps as well as fancy, colorful fragranced soaps. I use a lot of Calendula infused oils in my products - from the soaps, to the lotions, to my current line of salves. All my soaps are made with goat milk from my herd of Nigerian Dawrf, Mini-Nubian, and Mini-Lamancha goats. So there is a lot of work to just get the milk into the house and frozen before it ever makes to a soap or lotion. This is the reason it isn't simply, " Sophie's Soaps", but rather, "Sophie's Soaps at Mini-Hooves Farm".
