Welcome to my wooly shop.
I offer PRE-CUT wool Penny Rugs/ Candle Mats.
What is a Penny rug?????
A penny rug or candle mat is a craft from the early 1800s that involved cutting scraps of wool (from worn out clothing) into coin shaped circles, which were then stitched together using a blanket stitch.
The name "penny rug" comes from the practice of using pennies as a template (in the early 1800s, pennies were the size of quarters!!)
Penny rugs or candle mats were used to protect wood tables from dripping candle wax. (no electricity).
Some mats even had a penny sewn inside to help them lay flat.

Fun and easy to stitch, careful, it's addicting!

PLEASE NOTE >>>> I use a high-end wool blend felt for my black background mats. I buy it by the bolt, direct from the factory. I use a wool blend on purpose! It is sturdier and much easier to handle and to stitch on, then 100% wool. If this is not to your liking, please don't buy these kits!<<<<<
