Vintage from the 1950s

For your consideration, the revised edition of the seminal "Layout in Advertising."

Written and illustrated by author, type designer, illustrator, book and binding designer, and marionette maker William Addison Dwiggins in 1928, and published by Harper Brothers, the revised was issued 20 years later in 1948 in a characteristically illustrated dust jacket.

This book was peerless at the time of its writing. Dwiggins was peerless as a multi-faceted artist and craftsman. He combined a keen intellect with a sharp sense of humor, and a practitioner's ability to convey the details of process in a clean and concise way. This book is the fruit of his genius.

This copy is by far the best currently available on line, or likely to be found.

The dust jacket has only the most minor fading to the green on the spine, the most minor loss at the jacket head and heel, and a closed 3/4" tear to the jacket front. The jacket is in a Demco archival jacket sleeve.

The interior is clean and bright. No previous owner's marks, no damp staining, no foxing, the hinges are solid, spine stamping is as bright as the day the book was published

The Harper & Brother copyright page code is L-Z indicating this copy was printed in November 1950. While that code doesn't indicate which printing, it seems likely this is a second printing of the revised 1948 edition.
