    Learn More About Table Runners

A table runner is a piece of fabric that is placed down the center of a dining table. It can be used with or without a tablecloth. Lace table runners can be placed over another tablecloth and the colors of the bottom layer will peek through the open-weave of the lace.

A table runner can be used in the center of a table and decorated with candles, flowers, and serving dishes. Depending on the fabric, the runner can be stretched flat or can be gathered around decorations. Wedding table runners are often used to bring one or more of the bride’s wedding colors into the reception decor. They can also be helpful in protecting your main tablecloth from spills or dripping wax if you’re decorating with candles. In autumn, fall table runners can be topped with colored leaf garlands and small, decorative pumpkins for a festive centerpiece.

There are many different ways to style a table runner on your table. Long table runners often drape over the head and foot of the table, especially if you aren’t planning to seat anyone in these spots. If you’re seating guests all the way around your table, your runner should end 12 to 18 inches before the end of the table so there’s room for the guest’s plate and glasses.
