Transmitted by traditional Indian medicine more than 5,000 years ago, there are 88,000 chakras throughout the human body. But there are basically seven, located from bottom to top of the spine.
A chakra bears witness to our vitality and our openness to the experience of the living.
Chakra derived from Sanskrit: चक्र, Devanagari script means wheel or disc.

In ancient India, the word referred to a disc of metal, gold, copper or iron, symbolizing the power of a raja said chakravarti: he who turns the wheel of the destiny of men, who holds their life in his hands, the one who is in the image of sūrya, the sun. We thus very logically find a representation of chakras in the emblem and the flag of India.

Ayurveda conceives of the human body as a microcosm in which energy flows through the chakras. Also found in the body are the five interacting elements that determine your Dosha. Health results from a balance between these elements and a smooth flow of energy. An imbalance or poor flow of energy will affect health.

Each chakra is associated with a color, deity, element, sound, organ of action, sensory organ or functions of consciousness.
