From the Designer, Hassan Lopez:
Since Clockwork Wars was released in 2015, I’ve been thrilled to watch a passionate community of fans grow around this game. I’ve had numerous conversations with many of you, and continued to think about how to support – and improve! – Clockwork Wars.
Increasingly, it became clear to me that numerous card effects in the game were slightly “off” and would benefit from a subtle tweaking. I would say that my overall design philosophy towards these changes has been one of modest change versus radical overall. The Discovery cards were always supposed to be absurdly powerful, and the Espionage cards purveyors of chaos and agony. But some were too strong, others weak-sauce, and this update represents my latest attempt to re-balance what ultimately can never be perfectly balanced. C'est la vie.
I’ve also long wanted to expand the game’s potential and variability through the addition of more Spymaster actions and General abilities. As such, in this update you'll also find some brand-new tools with which to make your enemies suffer. Thanks for your support, and I hope this convinces you to get those Rhinochs to the table at least one more time...
INSTRUCTIONS:
The new versions of Espionage and Discovery cards should replace the old ones of the same name. The new versions of the Generals, however, are designed to co-exist with the old. You now have two different versions of the Leviathan, Guardian, and Steamtank that you may use.
Choose one version of each General before starting your game.
With regards to the new Spymaster tiles:
• Add Conscription II to all 4-5 player games; there will now be 7 Spymaster tiles to choose from.
• If you wish to use Retreat in a game, remove Gambit.
• If you wish to use Conversion in a game, remove Counter-Intel.
