WHY A FACT SHEET, AND NOT A SPEECH?

A bullying situation is characterized by repetition, and repetition can only be demonstrated with dates. A parent who says "this has been going on for months" rarely gets anything done. A parent who submits four dated statements gets a meeting.

THE RULE, AND THERE IS ONLY ONE

Write about what happened, not what you think about it.

Do not write: "He humiliated him in front of everyone, as usual."
To write: "He took her bag and threw it in the toilet. Three students were watching. 12:40 pm, first-floor hallway."

Facts are verified, qualifications are debated, and a page of qualifications weakens ten pages of facts. This rule is explained on page 2, along with what must appear on each form without exception.

THE QUESTION TO ASK THE INSTITUTION, IN WRITING

Schools record incidents in a national application called School Facts. Any incident not recorded there does not exist for the school district, regardless of the number of meetings held. Inquire in writing whether the situation has been recorded and keep a record of the response.

WHAT THIS DOCUMENT IS NOT

This is a tool designed to assist parents. It does not encourage filing a complaint, nor does it advise against doing so: that decision rests with the family. It is not a substitute for school, a doctor, a psychologist, or a lawyer, and has no evidentiary value in itself. Evidence lies with the facts, dates, and documents.

If the child makes comments about death or disappearance, do not wait for the end of a procedure: call the doctor, 15, or go to the emergency room.
