So how did we get into the Die Cut business?
When my youngest son was first born (23 years ago!), I wanted to find a creative way to showcase all his beautiful little baby photos as a keepsake for when he got older. I started making cardboard collages and eventually transitioned into making scrapbook pages and albums. I had never considered myself an ‘arty’ type of person, however I loved the process and could easily spend hours creating them.
As with many crafters, we start out small with our supplies and as the months pass, we buy more and more until we are bursting trying to find room to fit it all 😊
The one thing I noticed over the years was how much extra ‘equipment and tools’ I had that I barely used. I would buy one ‘plane hand punch’ or one ‘baby pram punch’ and wouldn’t use it again. I could spend anywhere from $2 to $50 per hand punch an not use it very often. Not only was it expensive for each project, it was hard finding space to keep them all.
This is when I started looking for bulk sets of pre-cut dies so that I may save a lot of money and also time! There were a few people making them, which was wonderful, however, it was difficult finding the colour sets I wanted or the quality of the cardstock I needed.
I wondered, ‘If this is something I find challenging, perhaps other people do too’. I wanted to test this theory. This was the beginning of Ikitha Creative, however I wasn’t aware of it at the time. 😊
I started making pre-cut, die cut sets in a range of colour sets and uploaded them onto eBay and Etsy to see how they would go and one by one, I was getting sales and orders for specific colour sets and additional designs.
I ended up having over 120 hand punches!
What started out as a hobby, has finally turned into it’s own little business and I absolutely LOVE what I do 😊
I have since moved on from the hand punches, and now my die cuts are created by my Cricut machine, which has opened up a beautiful new pathway of designs and sizes that I was previously limited to.
I endeavour to create new designs each week now and am happily open to custom orders.
