How can we help you?

Donating Shop Proceeds to Charity

If you are a seller and you'd like to use your Etsy shop to engage in charitable fundraising on behalf of a recognized, tax-deductible charitable organization, there are a few ways Etsy can help.

First and foremost, for your own protection, please be aware that if you decide to raise money for a tax-deductible charitable organization (for example: 501(c)(3) status or equivalent with the IRS, or a similar legally-recognized non-US charitable organization), you must receive the appropriate consent from the charitable organization.

When you make contact, speak to the organization about the use of their name, affiliation, and trademark. To promote any items using the name of a non-profit or legally-recognized organization, it is very important that you have the proper consent. The organization can also help you answer any questions or concerns about how money is being spent.

Tips for charitable listings

  • Include clear information about the donation details and the organization you’re supporting in your listing description(s) and other public shop pages

  • Create and promote a tag dedicated to items for sale on behalf of your cause. Buyers looking to support your cause can then use this tag as a search term to surface relevant items. Choose a term that buyers would intuitively use to reach your specific cause. You may also want to use this term as a hash tag to help promote your items via Twitter.

  • Create a team to communicate with and organize individuals vested in your cause. Though soliciting donations is not allowed in our main Forums, a team can serve as a central place to share information, organize promotions, and get people involved.

  • Be sure to outline your intentions in your team charter. Use your About this team section to tell people how they can get involved. You can also create threads for people to share their thoughts on the topic and share charity items.

  • Each listing going toward charity must represent a tangible item for sale. Listings cannot be created solely for the purpose of transferring money. As a transaction the buyer must receive something for their purchase.

  • Etsy cannot verify donations. Each seller is responsible for ensuring the correct receipt of proceeds to a specific organization. Transactions for charity are entered into at the buyer's risk.

  • Be sure to follow Etsy's Seller Policy. Sending unsolicited donation requests using any of the community features, such as Conversations, may be considered spam.
