Pink Glass Bead Necklace Double Strand Jeweled Floral Clasp

ITEM: A really sweet little necklace signed Japan featuring pink glass beads that look a lot like rose quartz’ beads. The box clasp is beaded with smaller pink glass beads interspersed with little white cherry blossoms. Wired to the gilt mesh box clasp, a textile style of design typical of pieces from the era. The necklace is a double strand, a sweet petite sized opening is also indicative of it’s age. This very pretty necklace likely dates to the early half of the 1940s (+/-). The little clusters of beads on the clasp are what really elevate this one. It’s very well made, well crafted. The beadwork would have been hand done, using a fine wire, they essentially sew the beads into the mesh. These jeweled clasps would have been worn towards the front, upper right or left, to show it off. The clasp essentially becoming the pendant. Many of the larger bejeweled clasps also had a pin back to help hold it in place, causing some confusion if unfamiliar with the style of dress in the day! Some even had removable portions, a dangle or drop for instance, called a Day to Night design. The idea was to wear the simpler version during daytime and add the extra bit of bling for evening dress! Many of those day to night pieces were also multi functional in that they could be worn in a variety of ways, attached to hair combs belt buckles and such. Ingenious really, don’t you think? I had one that could be taken apart in such a way that it was a necklace, earrings and bracelet or an extended length necklace with dip dangles! Just so cool. Anyways, I digress. Ours is a rather more straightforward design with a simple yet elegant style that is very wearable today. Pretty in Pink! Signed Japan on the inside of that beaded mesh clasp.

SIZE: As with many of these true vintage pieces, this necklace is on the smaller size, measuring 15” end to end. There’s no extender to adjust the length - so measure twice! The two strands make it a tad over 1/2” wide.

CONDITION: In very good vintage condition showing age related wear overall. No missing, cracked or broken beads and no signs of replacement or repair. The jeweled clasp is intact and functional. The wired beadwork is sound, I see no unraveling or loosening of twists. There’s a pin prick area of verdigris on the inside of that mesh metal box clasp. Definitely patina. I’ve been fairly successful cleaning those greenies using a soft bristle toothbrush and care. You can’t see it though, it’s on the interior. But there and so noted. As a strung piece, you might need to restring it at some point. Not yet though! It’s pretty sound actually. A really pretty, pink glass, beaded necklace with little jeweled floral clasp. Perfect for Spring with that Cherry Blossom design!

Studs look great! A small issue where one of the studs from the original post went missing but the seller took care of it and I'm very happy with my purchase
