Materials: Sapucaia Pod

Sapucaia pods are known by many things: monkey pot, monkey pods, sapa pods, paradise nut pod, mini-brazil nut pod. No matter what you call them, these pods make great hides for larger hermit crabs. When your hermit crabs will no longer fit through a standard hole in a coconut, consider a monkey pot! These pods are more sturdy than coconuts and have a wider opening to accomodate some of our larger crabby babes. Sustainably and ethically harvested in Brazil. Chemical free. Has been heat treated to eliminate any unwanted hitch-hikers.

There is a small amount of dried flesh in the interior of most sapucaia pods--my crabs enjoy eating it, as do isopods and springtails.

Sapucaia pods also make great moss pits--they can naturally hold water, so is great for moss mositure rentention! If you find that your pod holds water and you do not want it to--you can remedy this by drilling a hole in it. They are also suitable for other critters, such as: frogs, lizards, isopods, springtails, spiders, etc.

Species: Lecythis zabucajo (related to Brazil nuts)

The following size options are available:

SMALL: 4 - 4 3/4" at widest outer diameter point; 2 1/4 - 2 3/4" inner diameter of hole
MEDIUM: 5 - 5 3/4" at widest outer diameter point; 2 1/4 - 3 1/2" inner diameter of hole
LARGE: 6 - 6 3/4" at widest outer diameter point; 2 1/2 - 4" inner diameter of hole

Overall height (or depth, depending on how you are looking at things) ranges from 3 1/2 - 6 1/2 inches. Weight range: 1 lb 6 oz to 2 lbs

Legally, that is what is required. It's also a more transparent way of selling products. We will use a 2" x 3" bag size as an example. That bag size may hold 2 Oz of greensand, but it will only hold 0.5 Oz of worm castings. Big difference, huh? So instead of our customers having to play a guessing game as to how much they are getting--net weights are given.

From time to time, our supplier runs out of clear tubes and we have to wait while they make more for us. When this happens, we switch to another color--same quality, same specs, just a different color!

This was perfect for my crabs! My big guy loves it. He kept choosing small shells so he could fit into a coconut hide, but now that he has this, he's much more comfortable in a very nice roomy shell. (Ignore the little Lego crab lol, big guy is just below him)
