Protea Coronate has unusual and bright apple-green inflorescences in its unique green flower, hidden amongst its silvery foliage. Truly a different garden specimen, it is a compact garden shrub with unusual flower heads that are wonderful in floristry. It is also one of those species that remains relatively unknown.

Protea coronata is an upright shrub, 2-3 m tall. Leaves are upward-pointing, narrowly lance-shaped, green to bluish green, sometimes turning purplish around the flower head, and sparsely covered in long shaggy hairs, giving them a silvery sheen, and becoming hairless with age. Young growth is often attractively tinged red or coppery

Protea Coronata is part of an ancient plant family, the Proteaceae, which had already divided into two subfamilies before the break-up of the Gondwanaland continent about 140 million years ago. Both the Proteoideae and the Grevilleoideae occur mainly in the southern hemisphere. In Southern Africa there are about 360 species, of which more than 330 species are confined to the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Received seeds. Planted one seed in sand (as suggested everywhere) and the other in soil. Sand planted seed sprouted approx 1 inch in height, then disappeared. Yes, disappeared as not there anymore. The soil planted seed, never sprouted. That is all I have.
