Notes on Stones:
Moss Agate: Moss agate is not technically an agate, though its appearance may seem so. It is actually a form of chalcedony and is a member of the quartz family. It has a hazy appearance and has green and black dendritic inclusions that look like moss hanging in a foggy forest. Moss agate is believed to inspire tranquility and bring the wearing closer to nature.
Garnet: The birthstone for January, garnet is a brilliant blood-red stone that resembles pomegranate seeds. The name garnet actually is derived from the Latin word granatum, which means pomegranate seed. Just like pomegranates, garnets are associated with eternal love and passion. They are also often given as a gift before travel to ensure a speedy and safe return.
Red Line Marble: Marble is a metamorphic rock and it is usually light in color, its purest form being solid white. This marble features distinctive red veins that appear across its soft white surface. These veins are caused by the presence of trace minerals and cause different colors or patterns depending on the geology of the area it is from. Marble is the stone of potential. Just as a sculptor sees a great work of art in a block of stone marble, it reminds us of our untapped potential and all its possibilities.
Iolite: Deep indigo blue color, often clear with a few inclusions that refract the light in interesting ways. Sometimes called the 'water sapphire' iolite is a stone believed to aid imagination, intuition, and clear the mind for clear thought.
Chrysoprase: Brilliant apple green in color with a milky quality to the stone that glows in the light. Chrysoprase is believed to manifest optimism and joy.
Tigers Eye: Staring into this stone is like staring into the eye of the tiger. Tigers eye features golden bands of iridescent luster like the eye-shine of a big cat. Tigers eye is a grounding stone that promotes clear vision and attention to detail.
Moonstone: This glorious stone has a luminescence or milky quality that could be said to resemble moonlight. This particular moonstone is white with flashes of blue as is it moved in the light. Moonstone is the stone of new beginnings and is often associated with fertility. It is believed to promote balance, hope, and enhance confidence and creativity.
Labradorite: The best description of these beautiful iridescent stones I've seen is they look like the northern lights trapped in a stone. These green-gray stones feature flashes of blue and green when they are held up to the light. This incredibly spiritual stone is believed to protect against and temper negativity. Labradorite is also the stone of transformation and strengthens will and self-worth.
Rose Quartz: A beautiful clear pale pink stone that often has inclusions that refract light in interesting ways. Rose Quartz is said to be the stone of universal love. It is believed to open the heart and promote love, self-love, friendship, and feelings of peace.
Amethyst: A vibrant purple colored stone that is often clear with a few inclusions or cloudiness to it. Amethyst is believed to alleviate sadness and grief and dissolve negativity. It is also often used to encourage sobriety and promote spiritual awareness through peace, unification, serenity, and calmness. Amethyst is also the birthstone for February.
'Turquoise' Howlite: Howlite is a beautiful snow white stone that features a soft brown veins. White it is gorgeous all on its own it is often dyed and used as a stand in for turquoise. Just like turquoise howlite is a calming stone and it is often used in meditation to focus the mind and promote serenity.
Golden Sheen Obsidian: Most think of obsidian as a rich black but this obsidian has a glittery surprise. in the light it shines bright from within with shiny golden flecks. Obsidian is actually a type of volcanic glass and the golden flecks are actually tiny gas bubble that were trapped inside when the stone cooled. Obsidian is a grounding stone that is often used for self-reflection and internal growth as well as releasing ego.
Pearl: Pearls are not stones. They are lustrous little beads produced by a living creature, the clam, rather than geology. These pearls are pale pink in color and have a natural flake shape. Pearls are said to be the symbol of wisdom gained by experience. They represent loyalty, generosity, integrity, and purity. They are also the birthstone for June.
Peridot: This brilliant spring green stone is the birthstone for August and it is not just found on earth. Peridot that is large enough to use in jewelry can also be found in meteorites! Peridot is believed to have a lot of benefits including protection from nightmares, inspires creativity and happiness.
Lepidolite: A special type of mica that is pink or purple in color that is mined as a source of lithium and other rare earth minerals. It is associated with the crown chakra and is believed to have calming and nurturing qualities. It is often used to bring balance to emotions, calm anxiety and fear.
Double terminated quartz is quartz crystals with a point at either end. These particular quartz crystals are believed to create balance between energy fields by allowing energy to flow in both directions.
