Handmade creations of home decor and clothing, by Nisha…..
Glow-worm was the title I gave to my boring table lamp while preparing for my board exams. I hand painted the letter "O," depicting a worm. Instead of studying during my preparatory leave, I ended up painting the main wall of my room with psychedelic motives. I also painted my own clothes with boho designs. That is when my parents decided to address the elephant in the room and got me admitted to the design institute, NIFT, Delhi. The catchy tunes of research and development motivated me to part-time assist my professors in accomplishing industrial design projects. That gave me confidence as well as financial independence. Before the completion of the last semester, I hit the jackpot through campus placement. That was the turning point of my career.
Being an eager beaver, the professional world opened doors for me. In less than a year, I was presenting home furnishing collections at the international level. My simple Indian family started taking pride in my growth.
The growth ladder made me a member of the board of directors of the export company at the tender age of 23. Eventually, I mastered the art of transforming clients' custom ideas into reality. This went on for 14 long years. In a tough and bittersweet way, my values were getting suppressed in the hoard of commercial bulk production and corporate pressure. As the business grew, the stakeholders of the company started compromising on the virtue of humanity, which used to leave me heartbroken. I somehow wasn't ready to adjust to their changed behaviour. Finally, I discovered spiritual yogic practices, which gave me strength to give up the fortune I was making at the cost of my peace.
This entire experience propelled the birth of Vedah Designs in 2017, a design studio for decorative pillows and custom made clothing, while attempting to save the grace of Indian handmade products made with love. The fading charm of intricate, hand-embroidered, and eco-friendly products was hence preserved on an international level. In the process, no one questioned the compromised value system of the corporate world. Here, we treat everyone equally. The age-old, traditional handcrafted wonders were well presented all over again to clients across the world. Returning happy clients became my strength. A respectful and passionate ecosystem was soon created.
To this day, I understand that the step I took in 2017 was necessary, both for the textile industry and for my mental peace. In our little corner of the world, we choose morals and comfort over all other worldly factors.
Namastey!
