Ruby and Jack~ Those aren't the names of my kids......
I am a wife, and mom to 3 precious kids:) (But none of them are named Ruby or Jack).
Ruby and Jack~ two spectacular and talented women I am lucky to call my grandmothers.
Ruby~ She propped me up on a stack of telephone books and patiently showed me how to wind a bobbin, thread the needle, and work the presser foot-when I wasn't yet tall enough to see over the edge of her sewing table. She granted me free reign over her fabric scraps, and supplies, never seeming worried that I'd break her machine or waste her materials. From her I gained the confidence to enjoy and experiment creatively. I could freely take off running with any idea that I chose:)
Jack~ She taught me how to read and use my first envelope pattern, helping me to make my own Easter dress when I was about 10. Although she did preface the whole lesson by telling me that she had never seen a published pattern till she was an adult. She learned to sew from her mother, who could create a pattern for any garment in the world with just a tape measure, a pencil, and a big ol' piece of newspaper! She came from a fascinating era where this skill was common knowledge. I set my mind to one day become like that with my sewing.
Soooo~ Here I am with my tape measure, my pencil, and my big piece of newspaper, drafting out my ideas~ one by one. (Don't worry, I digitize them before sending them your way;) I hope sewing them brings you as much enjoyment and satisfaction as it does to me:)
