Your play silk will be hand dyed by me using the same colors and method as pictured but could vary slightly in pattern and hues due to the nature of hand painting.
Play silks are peacefully simple, open ended toys. Play silks are soft yet strong, colorful yet translucent and wonderfully magical additions to a home. Some ideas my children have found for play silks include princess wands, fairy wings, a king’s cape, a mermaid’s tail, swimming in an ocean, baby blankets, costumes, puppet shows, background for nature tables, villages, forts and the list goes on....
Care: hand-wash / hang to dry, some slight bleeding may occur with the first washing
Please note the size listed is the standard measurement according to industry norms measured prior to the dyeing process. Habotai silk shrinks approximately 10% in length and 2% in width resulting in the finished play silk measuring slightly smaller after the dyeing process.
Hand dyed using non toxic environmentally safe low immersion dye tested and conform to ASTM 4236 labeling standards for non-toxic materials.
Tags: Blank silks are shipped with small white tags denoting their authenticity as 100% China silk. These tags are loosely stitched on to be made ready for easy removal if desired. Occasionally, the tags come off during the dyeing process, however I leave all tags in place unless they have become detached on their own.
Why Waldorf ?
Waldorf toys encourage an approach to education and play that stimulates activity, imagination, and creativity. Open-ended and unstructured. Children do not need to be taught how to play with Waldorf toys. Playtime is kept unstructured. Children are led in play by their own minds and thought processes. Toys are meant to inspire children’s imagination, not to stifle or limit their creativity.
Multi-purpose and versatile. Toys in Waldorf homes grow with the child. Consider blocks as an example. Babies play with the blocks by banging them together and exploring them with their senses. Young toddlers delight in stacking the blocks in a tower and knocking them over. Older preschoolers use their imagination to create buildings or design patterns from the shapes. These toys offer a longevity of use and duality of play.
Made of natural materials. Waldorf toys have simplicity of design. Constructed of wood, fabrics, beeswax, or items from nature, children fill in the blanks with their own minds. Children enjoy the smell, the sight, and the texture of these toys.
Lacking of commercialism. Unlike the common result of modern children’s toys, the Waldorf philosophy emphasizes that less is more. Parents are discouraged from rushing out and “buying it all.” The belief that with just a few quality toys, children will naturally push their imaginations to create greater meaning and purpose.
Waldorf inspired toys are made of natural materials such as wood and fabric and are very simple in design so that the child uses their creativity while playing. These types of toys encourage children to be actively engaged in their play rather than passively watching or listening. Playing with toys is a universal, natural, and essential part of growing up. It is through play that children learn about the world, how to control their bodies, and develop social skills.
Waldorf toys allow children to actively play with toys that are not only safe for their health but safe for the environment as well
