I started playing with thread when I was little. Despite my mom's fears that I would somehow swallow a needle or exsanguinate myself on an errant pin, she couldn't keep me out of her sewing box. I made my first "embroidery" for my dad at the age of five; it was a yellow mountain goat on scrap satin.
In intervening years, I have branched out from goats, and now find myself stitching all sorts of things. My inspiration starts out from the fabrics in my stash, or the fat quarters on the wall of the local quilt shop. I look at a piece of fabric, and think to myself: this should have _____ on it! Like a patient listener, I listen to the fabric's story. I tell my own back in stitches and slap them together, and by the time we're all through everyone's thick as thieves.
