Botanical printing, also called eco-printing or flower printing, is a sustainable natural dyeing technique where pigments from plants are transferred onto prepared fabrics through steaming or boiling. It creates unique, detailed, and one-of-a-kind contact prints. The process is highly sensitive to the smallest change in materials, composition, and temperatures. Leaves, flowers, seeds, and vines create different colors depending on the mordants, the type of fabric, the dyes, and length of time steamed. This makes each piece truly unique and identical recreations nearly impossible.
