I got Adobe Photoshop for my birthday when I turned 13 and it was all over.
I instantly fell in love with all things graphic design. I already had an affinity towards design in general. I was always creating as a kid whether it was sewing and hot gluing crafts with my Grandma in her magical, fully stocked, craft room, or making American Girl Doll accessories with my best friend's little sister for her to add to her toy collection. I always enjoyed creating, and I still do.
My shop originally took off when I started creating more of the previously mentioned American Girl Doll-sized accessories but then a few years later my mom got me a Cricut Explore Air machine for my birthday. This Cricut machine was extra special because you didn't need cartridges for it which meant that as long as you had an SVG of the design you wanted it to cut out, it would cut it out. The only thing was that Cricut Design Space was brand new along with this new no-cartridge machine so free SVG options were extremely limited. As a kid with a ton of creativity and technical skill but essentially no money, instead of buying the SVGs I wanted, I decided to make them myself! It didn't take me long after that to realize I could begin selling the SVGs I made for myself on Etsy, along with any other fun designs I dreamt up!
I eventually went to college to pursue a formal education in graphic design and get that piece of paper they call a degree, to be able to get a job in graphic design and that's exactly what I did! While I love my graphic design job, it's incredibly fun to continue creating my own unique designs that I don't HAVE to create, but get to simply imagine and bring to life (at my own free will, LOL!)
