It began with a garden
My journey began with having my garden landscaped. and my search for garden labels that were engraved. Why engraved? I love antique jewelry and most of the best is carved & "engraved", I knew just how great engraving looks on any material and knew it was the look I wanted in my garden.
At the time of the landscaping and the search for my engraved labels, I was working in corporate world and getting a bit over it all. I wanted to be "my own boss", doing something I enjoyed. As a result I started up a business called Forget Me Not Garden Labels where we manufacture & supply computer rotary engraved labels for plants, gardens etc. (www.forgetmenotgardenstyle.com.au) to order.
Now the computer engraving is great, and my husband (who is a Telco engineer/guru and write's our design software for our label site) loves the computer rotary engraver. To me it was a bit too "techie" and frustrating to use, where was my input into the engraving? Sure I get to hand finish and quality control all the work, but I don't "engrave" the labels.
I purchased a low cost hand rotary engraver, loved it and upgraded this to a more robust (more grunt/variable speed) model and then decided to investigate sand engraving.
There is now a large sand engraving unit in my workshop, and I now spend my days combining sand & rotary engraving to design new engraved items, trying out new ways to combine rotary & sand engraving on such materials as brass, wood, stone, glass and more...
I love my days exploring the world of engraving, no job or piece is simple, there is always something new & unique in each job. Engraving a custom order allows me to connect with my customer as I am creating something permanent, handmade & unique just for them.
