Why I started Inky Mess Press:
To put it simply, I love making things!
To get slightly more complicated, carving linoleum blocks, especially the more detailed ones, is a very meditative and calming process, and is something I enjoy immensely. But the block doesn't really come to life until you add the ink and paper. I love creating, and the part I love the most is sharing it with others - having a new viewer bring completely different insights I never would have thought of, and seeing how it appears in their eyes. Once I was no longer an art student, I couldn't quite justify printing 30 of something and simply holding on to all of them - creating something so it can sit unseen on a shelf just leaves the creation feeling existentially frustrated. As a result, I stopped making prints. I was left dissatisfied with a bunch of half-finished ideas in my sketchbook that I kept putting off bringing to life. Toward the end of 2014 I realized I needed to make things again, to feel that sense of accomplishment and fulfillment that comes with pulling a print off the block and revealing the image. The result was this online print shop. I'm really excited to have a full-blown creative outlet again, and I hope that you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy making it!
Things that interest me, which you will likely see pop up in my prints, include:
butterflies, ocean biology, the beach, little known scientific facts, geometry, bright colors, gradients, languages and linguistics, whimsy, textures, reading, geography, collage.
Other interests: Book binding, paper making, and general merriment.
