Feathering The Nest
Upon leaving university in 2009 I have worked for a high end lingerie designer, created goldwork embroidery kits for Toye, Kenning and Spencer military regalia, and exhibited in several exhibitions across the UK, including Fortnum & Mason Department Store. All of these experiences have taught me something about the way in which I would like to work and especially about the life and home I would like to build for myself. It was with a rose tinted ideal in the back of my mind that a constant "tick tick tick" of thoughts started to ensue.
Taking in inspiration, scribbling ideas, absorbing information where ever I found it, weighing the options, attending courses and purchasing a digital embroidery machine. Kate Sproston Design was starting to form, always with the same goal in mind. To produce quality interior products that have been made with care and attention to detail, whilst at the same time allowing me to build a career and life I love.
It was in 2012 that the company was finally launched creating embroidered products for the modern home. Combining my love of traditional embroidery with a pop of colour and sleek design, all items are handmade within the UK from the highest quality materials available. Each product is made from scratch with the option to personalise some items for that extra special touch.
It is still with that fluffy cloud of a dream in my mind that I sit here and write this story. With the hope that in the not too distant future I will be sat at the same desk, in a clean white studio nestled at the end of my garden. Filled with my favourite books, pictures and inspiration, the sunshine will be beaming in through the windows, warming the room whilst I sew products that every customer will cherish.
For all the world looking as if it has comes straight from the pages of a magazine I know, but it is the simple things in life that can bring the most joy. From the little studio I am striving to build to a handmade gift complete with a personal message to give to a loved one. I encourage us all to feather our nests and create our own little space.
