Sono Kathy Jurek, un'artista e illustratrice che vive a Omaha, nel Nebraska, e nutro una grande passione per l'illustrazione ad acquerello. Unisco strati vibranti di acquerello a texture materiche create con la matita per dare vita a disegni che sono al tempo stesso fantasiosi e senza tempo.
L'arte fa parte della mia vita da sempre. Negli ultimi 20 anni ho dipinto settimanalmente con un piccolo gruppo di amici, ed è stato durante una di queste sessioni, mentre sperimentavo con acrilici dai colori vivaci e fluidi, che mi è venuta in mente l'espressione "piccoli spruzzi di colore". Ho messo da parte quel nome, sapendo che un giorno sarebbe appartenuto a qualcosa. Questo negozio è quel qualcosa.

Ho iniziato dipingendo ritratti, cosa che amo ancora, e ho lavorato per un paio d'anni come illustratrice per bambini. Quando ho aperto il mio negozio su Etsy, volevo concentrarmi sull'arte per la cameretta dei bambini e ho iniziato con una serie di camioncini. Hanno iniziato a vendere e poi è successo qualcosa di meraviglioso: i clienti hanno cominciato a chiedermi di dipingere camion specifici. Le loro richieste hanno plasmato la collezione, un veicolo alla volta, fino a quando non si è ampliata includendo treni, trattori, aerei e altro ancora.

Questo è il cuore del mio lavoro. Dipingo cose che suscitano calore e nostalgia: opere d'arte adatte alla cameretta di un bambino e che crescono con lui, pezzi che raccontano una storia prima ancora che venga letta una sola parola. Ogni stampa nasce nel mio studio di casa, dove gli acquerelli sono sempre a portata di mano e di solito c'è qualcosa di nuovo in lavorazione.

I'm Kathy Jurek, an artist and illustrator based in Omaha, Nebraska, with a passion for watercolor illustration. I blend vibrant layers of watercolor with gritty pencil textures to craft designs that are both whimsical and timeless.
Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. For the past 20 years, I've painted weekly with a small group of friends — and it was during one of those sessions, playing around with loose, colorful acrylics, that the words "little splashes of color" popped into my head. I tucked the name away, knowing someday it would belong to something. This shop is that something.

I started out painting portraits, which I still love, and spent a couple of years working as a children's illustrator. When I opened my Etsy shop, I wanted to focus on nursery art — and I began with a set of trucks. They started to sell, and then something wonderful happened: customers began asking me to paint specific trucks. Their requests shaped the collection, one vehicle at a time, until it grew into trains, tractors, airplanes, and beyond.

That's the heart of what I do. I paint things that make people feel warm and nostalgic — art that belongs in a child's room and grows with them, pieces that tell a story before a single word is read. Every print starts in my home studio, where the watercolors are always out and something new is usually in progress.
