Frequently asked questions

There aren't any SVG files in my downloads (also - the files don't work in Cricut Design Space)

This usually happens on Windows computers, because they're disguised as another file type (usually Microsoft Edge). In Windows File Explorer, click the View tab, then check the box next to File name extensions to see file extensions. You should now see the SVG files.

In Cricut Design Space, UPLOAD the SVG file to Cricut Design Space as usual, THEN add it to your canvas before trying to use it. You must do both. It might look different from other files you've used before (possibly all black), but you'll be able to use it after that.

If you're using something other than Cricut Design Space, simply right-click on the file and choose "open with" and then select your cutting program.

The coupon code isn't working!

Be sure to add the TOTAL number of cutting files to your shopping cart before trying to use the coupon. For example, to take advantage of the BUY2GET1 coupon code, add ALL THREE desired cutting files to your cart, then apply the code. You will only pay for two, the third will be free. (Note - codes are case sensitive, so they must be entered in ALL CAPS)

I'm using a Cricut and I don't see any score lines, only cut lines

In order to accommodate the most cutting machines, the stars are meant to be cut all at once in a single pass *without* the use of score lines, thus the dashed lines. If you cut them as designed, you'll get the star that's shown in the pictures, as all the stars in the pictures were cut using this method.

What supplies do I need to make the stars?

A cutting machine (recommended) with a *sharp* blade or X-acto knife or similar if cutting the star by hand (only recommended for the plain or window stars), two letter-sized or A4 sheets of sturdy card stock weight or heavier material for the 5 pointed stars or three sheets for the moravian stars (I used 140 lb watercolor paper), two letter-sized or A4 sheets lightweight or transparent paper for the lining pieces (optional), hot glue gun (recommended) or other glue to assemble the star, non-wrinkling glue or tape to attach the lining pieces (optional), 6 feet (2m) of narrow ribbon or similar to hang the star (optional), a long narrow needle to thread the ribbon (optional, if using a ribbon)

How big are the stars?

If you use the cutting files as is, the 5 pointed stars will produce a star approximately 9" (about 23 cm) in diameter, the Moravian style stars will produce a star approximately 6.5" tall (about 16.5 cm) and the flower star luminary will produce a star approximately 8" (20 cm) in diameter and 7.5" (19 cm) tall. However, you may resize the files as necessary, to produce a star as large or as small as you like.

Etsy says I'm not authorized to download the files

This usually happens because you were logged in under a different account than the one you made the purchase with. Try logging out of your account and back in with your other account, and try the download link again. If you only have one account, you might have checked out as a guest. Either way, if you can't get it to work, message me with your order number and I'll help you out.

I bought a file from you last year and now I can't find it. Do I have to buy it again?

No! Simply go into your account (top right of screen next to the shopping cart), click on Purchases and reviews, find the order, and click on the black Download Files button. You might also be able to find a download link by searching your emails for "download your Etsy purchase". If you still can't find it, just drop me a line and I'll help you out.

Can I use these patterns to make stars to sell at a craft show?

As of 2022, I no longer require an extended use license, however, I do ask that you abide by the following:

- stars will be made by hand, not mass produced by mechanical means
- no more than 100 stars will be made using any one pattern
- credit will be given to SVG Paper Design in the item description

If you have other questions that aren't answered above, please feel free to contact me via Etsy convo or email.
