A lab-created ruby, also known as man-made ruby, is a ruby gemstone that is produced in a laboratory setting rather than being formed naturally in the Earth's crust. These lab-created rubies have the same chemical composition and physical properties as natural rubies, as they are composed of the mineral corundum with the element chromium responsible for its red color.
Production process :
Flame Fusion/Verneuil Process: Named after the French chemist Auguste Verneuil, this method involves melting aluminum oxide powder with a small amount of chromium oxide and letting it crystallize as it's slowly pulled upwards. The resulting crystal is then cut and polished to create gem-quality synthetic rubies.
Lab-created rubies have become increasingly popular because they are more affordable than natural rubies and can be produced with fewer inclusions or flaws. Their appearance and properties are virtually indistinguishable from natural rubies to the naked eye. However, gemstones are often disclosed as lab-created or synthetic to maintain transparency and value. These synthetic rubies are used in jewelry, and they can be just as beautiful and durable as their natural counterparts.

The cut of this ruby is not horrible but it's not very good. The shape of the table is uneven. The facets do not meet especially at the pavilion. The pavilion is also too shallow so there is a big window. I've bought other rubies in this price range that were not perfectly cut but were still cut much better than the rubies I got from this store.
