I love making cute stuff!
I have always enjoyed sewing and “making cute stuff.” As a kid, I honed my skills in my 4-H club (the Eager Beavers!). I made my wedding dress and all of the bridesmaid dresses for my wedding.
As the years went on, I loved sewing and making cute stuff for our 3 kids during my 15 year maternity leave. I have to confess that I got a bit too much into making their Halloween costumes…! Ultimately, I returned to work as a teacher (special education), and I retired in 2019 after having taught for 22 years (in addition to teaching the first 2 years of my marriage).
While I loved teaching, it consumed me, and I did very little sewing and making cute stuff during those years. There were two notable exceptions to this. The first was when our younger daughter got married in 2011. Suddenly, I found myself making 6 bridesmaid dresses. And making centerpieces. And favors. And ceremony decorations. Oh, and her future father-in-law carved two kissing bears from wood for the cake topper, and with his permission, I embellished them by making a little top hat for the groom bear and a tiny veil for the bride bear. I had SO much fun!! The second time was in 2017, when our older daughter got married. She told me that she wasn’t fond of real flowers, and asked if I would play with making fabric/ribbon flowers. And boy, did I play!! I ended up making all of the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, hair flowers, her bridal headpiece, plus table decorations. It was great!
At the time of her marriage, I knew that it was not quite time for me to retire from teaching, but realized that I had found what I would like to do in retirement. At the end of the 2018 - 2019 school year, it was time, and this was my first step in my retired life (in addition to major cleaning projects). So, Welcome to my Etsy store!
And... sewing and making cute stuff for my 7 grandbabies is definitely also a part of my retirement life too!
